Tributes Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the duo.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt able to share openly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started spending more time together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the production, remarking that he could not remember "any day without mirth".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
Recently, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A court order put a embargo on the cases to restrict the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a record listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the tragedy, public individuals expressed varying reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering controversial remarks that were widely condemned by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the critics last week. Talking on his show, Rogan characterized the statements as "disturbing" and remarked they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by proposing that an associate ought to have acted when the impulse to speak on the passing was made.
