Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
