A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays
The winter break provide a multitude of pastimes far superior than catching up on the updates: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and employing patience techniques to avoid yelling at family members. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements emerged during the holidays, and should you overlooked any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. Yet, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not yet been announced.
